Injuries mean changes at Top Prospects Game

Monday - February 05, 2001

The Canadian Hockey League has announced two changes to the 2001 CHL Home Hardware Top Prospects Game roster due to injuries.

Doug Lynch, a centre with the Red Deer Rebels of the Western Hockey League, and Nicolas Corbeil, a centre with les Castors de Sherbrooke of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, are on their way to Calgary to take part in the sixth annual game Wednesday night at the Pengrowth Saddledome. Goaltender Daniel Boisclair of the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles is also a last minute addition to the February 7th game.

Lynch and Corbeil have been added to the game, which features 40 of the top prospects for the 2001 National Hockey League draft, by the NHL’s Central Scouting Department after injuries forced Tim Gleason and Ales Hemsky out of the game. Gleason, who plays with the Ontario Hockey League’s Windsor Spitfires, suffered a leg injury last week while Hemsky of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League’s Hull Olympiques picked up a concussion.

Lynch, a native of Port Coquitlam, British Columbia, is in his second year with the Rebels and has seven goals and 26 assists for 33 points in 52 games this season. The 6-foot-3, 201-pounder is the 38th ranked player on the NHL Central Scouting Department’s mid-term ranking.

Corbeil, a native of St-Eustache, Quebec, is also in his second season with Les Castors and has 26 goals, 42 assists and 68 points this season. The 5-foot-11, 175-pounder has blossomed into the team’s leading scorer and is ranked 130th on the NHL’s Central Scouting List.

Boisclair, who is ranked as the third best North American based goaltender for June’s NHL Entry Draft, replaces Pascal Leclaire of the Halifax Mooseheads who is ill with mono. A native of St. Augustin, Quebec, Boisclair has appeared in 28 games this season and has posted a 3.76 goals against average.

Head coaches Bobby Orr and Don Cherry have arrived in Calgary for Wednesday’s game, which also features skills testing on Tuesday. Team Orr leads Team Cherry in the series three games to two.

The game will be televised nationally on CTV Sportsnet.
